In my earlier article on transformation led by Thrilled, Willed, and Skilled teams, one question kept surfacing: What if you do not have willed or thrilled players for transformation?

👉 Read the earlier piece here to see where this question began.

Every leader hits this wall sooner or later: Energy fades. Enthusiasm dips. The transformation that once felt like a movement starts to feel like a mountain.

Your team is competent, but cautious. Present, but passive. The fire you expected, the “WILLED and THRILLED” players you hoped for just are not there.

Here is the truth: Transformation does not start with enthusiasm. It starts with leadership.

Passion is not the starting point; it is the result of how we lead.

When energy is low, it is not a failure of strategy; it is a signal to reframe how we ignite motivation.

🔹 The Three Pillars of Motivation in Transformation

1️⃣ ELEVATE: Purpose & Ownership

When people lose sight of the why or when that why becomes shallow, commitment fades.

Elevating motivation means connecting every role to a mission bigger than metrics: saving lives, improving outcomes, driving innovation, shaping the company’s future ...

It also means giving visibility and ownership at every level. When people feel seen, they start to lean in.

💬 Ask yourself: Have I made the mission meaningful and personal?

2️⃣ EMPOWER: Autonomy & Confidence

Willingness often hides behind uncertainty.

Empowerment is not just about freedom; it is about clarity. Provide the tools, training, and authority to act. Encourage bold experiments.

When leaders replace control with clarity, confidence grows exponentially. Autonomy is not a luxury; it is a catalyst.

💬 Ask yourself: Have I made it safe to try, fail, and learn forward?

3️⃣ ENERGIZE: Recognition & Momentum

Transformation is emotional.

Momentum comes from recognition, storytelling, and visible sponsorship. Celebrate small wins like they’re big ones. Share impact stories relentlessly.

When leaders narrate progress, belief becomes visible and culture starts to shift. Because feedback fuels progress, and appreciation fuels belief.

💬 Ask yourself: Have I made progress visible and celebrated it loud enough?

⚡ The Leadership Imperative

If you do not have willed and thrilled players at the start of transformation you do not have a people problem.

You have a leadership opportunity.

ELEVATE. EMPOWER. ENERGIZE.

Because leadership is not about finding motivation. It is about manufacturing it:

One purpose, One act of empowerment, and One moment of recognition at a time.
